Hi, I'm Matt

I’m a researcher focused on making buildings less resource intensive, and I like to read and write about it. My day job at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) focuses on national building stock modeling, building energy model calibration, and improving the tools architects and engineers use for high-performance design and retrofit. I also maintain open-source building modeling standards used by energy software developers. As a hedge against this not amounting to very much, and because I can’t work on every global problem, I’m a Giving What We Can member and think the Effective Altruism movement is a pretty good idea.
